The International Code Council, a non-profit that develops U.S. building code standards, needed to bring the process of submitting building codes into the modern era. To do this, we needed to understand the landscape which consists of thousands of public municipalities (fire, building, police, etc.) worldwide and hundreds of building related industries. They engaged with my team and me to manage the research, strategy, and design phases of their new cloud-based code submission tool.
During this 4 month project I oversaw the creation of the cdpAccess branding, the launch of the brand at a trade show, nationwide user research, and was the UI designer behind their new web tool.
The research was done over 6 U.S. cities with over 35 subjects. We uncovered behavioral and motivational drivers of the various fire, building and industry parties. This gave us the data and perspective needed to design the new web application, brand, and messaging for the service.
To promote the service and educate the organizations, we designed a launch campaign for both online and a trade show booth. At this show we met with the board of directors for several of the public organizations and presented the Prezi (seen below) with the goal of helping them understand what we've learned so far and what to expect with the new submission process.
